Optometry
The profession of optometry began in the early 20th century. It is a health care discipline which has grown tremendously with advanced educational programs and adoption of laws for the use of diagnostic and therapeutic drugs in optometric care.
"Doctors of Optometry (OD) are independent health care providers who specialize in the examination, diagnosis, treatment and management of diseases and disorders of he visual system, the eye, and associated structures as well as the diagnosis of related systemic conditions." (definition adopted by the American Optometric Association).
Many optometrist choose to specialize in an areas within the general practice of optometry. This may be Contact Lens, Vision Therapy or Low Vision.
New opportunities continuously arise as optometric practice and technology expand in various areas such as sports vision, occupational optometry, ocular testing and special testing.
Optometry is a highly respected profession throughout the world and demands quality work from highly qualified optometrists.
